Nurturing spiritual growth is a key focus and is fostered not only within the worship experience but also through the music program, Bible and book studies, Sunday School and programs for youth, and informal fellowship. A blanket ministry provides a “blanket of prayer and love” to anyone in the congregation who is in the hospital or seriously ill. A Prayer Chain and an active card ministry provide additional support to those with a need. 

Members of St. John’s use their time, talents, and financial resources to actively support many ministries in the surrounding community, including: 

Fruitland Baptist Food Pantry
Each month, food and household items are collected to donate to the Food Pantry. On the first Sunday of every month, a financial offering is collected. Both the food/household items and monetary donation are delivered to the Food Pantry the next day. 

National Night Out
Each year in early August, the City of Fruitland Police Department participates in the National Night Out event. The goal of National Night Out is to foster better relationships between the residents of Fruitland and law enforcement. Music, food and beverages, public safety demonstrations, tours of a helicopter, and community organizations are part of the evening’s events. There are also police officer meet-and-greets and those with winning prize tickets may win a bicycle. St. John’s always has a presence at the event giving aways gift cards and small gifts. 

Fruitland Community Thanksgiving Dinner
St. John’s partners with Fruitland Baptist for their annual Thanksgiving Dinner by providing financial support for the purchase of turkeys through our Turkey Fund collection/donation. Each year, this effort has provided over 1,000 dinners for anyone in need in the community. 

Christmas 4 Kids
Every Christmas, St. John’s supports the Christmas 4 Kids program sponsored by the City of Fruitland Police Department. Funds raised by the Police Department are used to purchase toys for children who might not get a gift otherwise. The toys are distributed by Santa from the back of a firetruck that goes from neighborhood to neighborhood a few days before Christmas. 

Fruitland Intermediate School (FIS) – Weekend Meals for Kids
Every fourth week of the month during the school year, St. John’s assembles thirty (30) meal bags for students that have been identified by the staff of Fruitland Intermediate School. The meal bags provide food and snacks for the weekend. Once assembled, the bags are delivered to the school and distributed to children on a Friday. 

Fruitland Intermediate School (FIS) – Clothes for Kids
Twice a year, St. John’s collects donations to purchase children’s clothes that are, in turn, stored by the school nurse for distribution, as needed. 

Salisbury Urban Ministries
Salisbury Urban Ministries mission is to develop and implement programs that serve and minister to the needs of the materially impoverished people of the community. Salisbury Urban Ministries manage the God’s Kitchen Ministry at Grace Methodist Church and Kids Café. Twice each year, St. John’s provides approximately 150 bagged lunches and drinks for those served by God’s Kitchen. Additionally, in the spring, personal hygiene items are made available to anyone in need. And in the fall, gloves and socks are included in the distribution. Additionally, St. John’s donates to the Kids Café ministry when Salisbury Urban Ministries asks for specific contributions, such as support for children attending the summer YMCA Youth Camp. 

HALO
HALO is a Christ-centered faith-based ministry that provides programs and services for the homeless and hurting men, women, and children in our community. St. John’s supports HALO financially throughout the year. 

Lions Club
St. John’s provides meeting space and kitchen facilities for The Lions Club, which meets at the church on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm. 

Seventh Day Adventist Church
St. John’s is delighted to share our facilities with the Chesapeake Council of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for prayer meetings and worship services.  In addition, St. John’s provides food/household items to their congregants by collecting items for distribution each month. 

UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief)
UMCOR is a ministry of The United Methodist Church through the General Board of Global Ministries, whose goal is to assist the most vulnerable persons affected by crisis or chronic need without regard to their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. They believe all people have God-given worth and dignity. St. John’s participates annually in UMCOR Sunday and also solicits additional donations when a special need arises. 

Salisbury University Wesley Foundation
St. John’s supports the young adult ministry that serves Salisbury University. 

Deaf Ministry
St. John’s has been awarded a grant to facilitate deaf ministry through the provision of an ASL interpreter on the first and third Sundays of each month available both in person during worship services and on live-streaming on the web.
